Fix 1: Disable Windows Sandbox Environment:
As mentioned above, one of the prime causes of the System Image Error 0x81000036 is the Windows Sandbox service. Windows Sandbox environment allows Windows users to run any programs in complete isolation. If something happened wrong in this service, the said error triggers. Here you need to temporarily disable the Windows Sandbox environment. To disable the Windows Sandbox environment, follow these steps,
- Firstly, press Windows + R to launch the RUN dialog box. Then in the RUN dialog box, type, appwiz.cpl and then press Enter.
- In case, UAC (User Account Control) prompt appeared on the screen, click on Yes.
- Now the Programs and Features window will open for you. Inside the same window, from the left pane menu, click on, the Turn Windows features on or off option.
- Inside the Windows features prompt, locate and select, Windows Sandbox. Then untick the check box beside Windows Sandbox to disable it and click on OK. If the confirmation prompt appeared on the screen, click on Yes.
- Once done, restart your system and go to Windows backup utility and try again to restore your OS and check the said error persists or not.
Fix 2: Disable Hyper-V:
The System Image Error 0x81000036 may occur if there is a conflict between the Windows backup restore process and the Hyper-V service. Therefore, you need to disable the Hyper-V service to avoid the said error. To disable Hyper -V, follow these steps,
- Firstly, press Windows + R to launch the RUN dialog box.
- Then in the RUN dialog box, type, appwiz.cpl and then press Enter.
- In case, UAC (User Account Control) prompt appeared on the screen, click on Yes.
- Now the Programs and Features window will open for you. Inside the same window, from the left pane menu, click on, the Turn Windows features on or off option.
- Inside the Windows features prompt, locate and select, Hyper-V and its associated services as well. Then untick the check box beside Hyper-V and its associated services to disable it and click on OK. If the confirmation prompt appeared on the screen, click on Yes.
- Once done, restart your system and go to Windows backup utility and try again to restore your OS and check the said error persists or not.
Fix 3: Enable Volume shadow copy service and File history service on your system:
As per some suffered users, they eventually fixed the System Image error 0x81000036 by simply enabling the File history service and Volume shadow copy service. So, we also recommend you to try the same. To enable the same services, follow these steps,
- Firstly, press Windows + R altogether to open the Run dialog box. Then type, services.msc in the text box and then press OK.
- Once you are inside the Services window, locate and select, File history service and Volume shadow copy service and verify both the services are running.
- If they are not running, then right-click on both services and from the drop-down menu, select Start. Now both the service will start manually.
- Once you are done, restart your system and try again to restore your OS, and check whether the said issue resolved or not.
