 Fixes for the Windows Update Error code 0x800F0922

Fix 1: Turn Off VPN Connection:

The Windows Update Error code 0x800F0922 can sometimes occur as a result of the VPN connection. If you are operating on a network that uses a VPN connection, you need to turn off the VPN connection. To turn off the VPN connection, follow these steps,

  • Firstly, disconnect the internet connection.
  • Then you just need to Turn OFF the VPN software.
  • Now again, try to update Windows 10; this time, the update process gets completed without any issue.
  • Once the update process gets completed, you need to restart the system.
  • Again, re-connect the internet connection and Turn ON VPN software.

Fix 2: Use Built-in Windows 10 Troubleshooter

  • Inside the Command Prompt window, copy+paste or type the following command, then press Enter.
sfc /scannow
  • Once done, check the said issue is resolved or not. If not, then you need to run the following command in the same Command Prompt window and then press Enter after each command,
dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

 dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth

 dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Fix 5: Reset Windows Update Components

If any of the above solutions did not help you resolve the Windows Update Error code 0x800F0922 issue, you need to reset Windows Update components. To update components, follow these steps,

  • Firstly, right-click on the Start button on the desktop and select Run from the context menu.
  • Then type cmd in the Run dialog textbox and open Command Prompt with administrative access.
  • Inside the Command Prompt window, copy+paste or type the following commands, then press Enter after each command,
net stop wuauserv

 net stop cryptSvc

 net stop bits

 net stop msiserver

 ren C:\\Windows\\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

 ren C:\\Windows\\System32\\catroot2 Catroot2.old

These above commands will deactivate BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer, and the Windows Update Services.

  • Now again, type the following commands to activate all the services mentioned above. Please press Enter after each command,
net start wuauserv

 net start cryptSvc

 net start bits

 net start msiserver
  • Once done, restart the system and check for improvement.
