How to Disable Noise Cancellation on Windows

Methods to Disable Noise Cancellation on Windows

You can select any of the methods listed below.

Method 1: Using Taskbar

This is a straightforward method to disable  noise cancellation on your Windows system. To do so,

  • Firstly right-click on the Volume icon in the desktop taskbar( from the bottom right corner).
  • Then choose the option Sounds or Open Sounds Settings. If you are using Sounds Settings then go to System-> Sound option.
  •  On the Sound Settings window, choose the Playback tab and see the lists of audio devices.
  • Click on the device you would like to disable Noise Cancellation and click on its Properties button. (from the button right side of the screen)
  • Once you reach the Properties screen, move to Enhancements tab and find the option Noise Cancellation/ Acoustic Echo Cancellation and untick these options.
  • Now click on the Apply and Ok button and see the result.

Method 2: Using Device Manager

Another method you can try is to Disable Cancellation through the Device Manager menu. To do so,

  • Type “Device Manager” in your desktop search box and launch the first search result.
  • Inside the Device Manager window, choose and expand the option Sound, video, and game controllers.
  • Then choose and right-click the Device you need to disable cancellation from the audio device connected list and choose Properties.
  • Next, choose the Driver tab and click on the Disable button to deactivate noise cancellation.
  • Finally click on the OK button and see that the noise cancellation feature still bothers you.

Method 3: Using Control Panel

You can also disable noise cancellation from the Windows Control Panel. The steps are different for Windows 10 and 11. Both versions’ steps are mentioned in this section.

In Windows 10, 

  • In the Windows desktop search box type “control panel” and open the first result.
  • Then select View by as Category and choose  Hardware and Sound.
  • And click on the Sound option and select the Recording tab from the next screen.
  • Now click on the microphone bar and choose the option Properties to continue.
  • Next, click on the Levels tab and find the Microphone Boost tool.
  • Then drag the microphone toll down end and drag the microphone dial to the upward.
  • Further, click on the Enhancements tab and tick the checkbox beside Noise Suppression and Acoustic Echo Cancellation.
  • Once done, then click on OK and go to the Recording menu and listen to the device.
  • If everything is fine, then click on OK.

In Windows 11, 

  • In the Windows desktop search box type “control panel” and open the first result.
  • Then click on the Hardware & Sound option and click on Sound.
  • Now choose Recording from the next screen and right-click on the Microphone to open its Properties menu.
  • Click on the Levels tab and drag the microphone down and move it again to the up way.
  • Then click on the Advanced tab and go to the Signal Enhancements option.
  • Now untick the checkbox beside Enable audio enhancements and click on Apply and OK button to save the changes.
