Windows 10 users regularly needed to update their system. Every latest update provides new features and several patches that cater to improve the performance of the machines and deliver a better working experience for the users. But along with the latest updates, users get a lot of glitches as well. Such a well-known issue is the Update Error Code 0x80041014. 

The said error can occur due to several reasons including, Windows Registry, Corrupted file, Windows Filesystem, Internet access, Windows Update service, Misconfiguration, Adware, several Virus and Malware are responsible for the said error. Apart from Windows 10, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 Redstone 2, Windows 10 Creators Update, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016 get affected by this error. Here, we have gathered some sure solutions to fix the said update error 0x800410014. Let’s see them in detail, 

Fix 1: Stop Windows Update Service: 

As the first resort to fix Windows Update error 0x80041014, you can try to stop the Windows Update service from the service window. To apply all the changes, you can follow the below given steps,

  • Firstly, click on the “Start” menu and in the search box, type “services.msc.” In your search results, you will find the Services menu. Click on it to open.
  • A new window will pop up with all Windows services on your computer.
  • You have to search for the”Windows Update” option. Windows upsate services
  • Now, right-click on the “Windows Update”, and then from the drop-down menu, click on “Stop.”

Once done, check the said error code disappeared from your Windows system. 

Fix 2: Clean Windows Update Temporary Cache Folder:

As per some suffered users, cleaning the Windows Update temporary cache folder helped to resolve the Windows Update error 0x80041014 issue quickly. Hence, we also recommend the same. To do so, you can follow the steps given below,

  • Firstly, press Windows + R altogether to open the RUN dialog box, then in the text box, type the following command and then press OK.


  • Now you will enter into Windows Explorer at the correct location.
  • Here delete all the contents of the folder. For this, you can choose the shortcut key Ctrl + A. This will select all files and folders at a time.

Once done, check the said error code disappeared from your system.

Fix 3: Enable Windows Update Service:

Sometimes enabling the Windows Update service helped several suffered users to get rid of the Windows Update error 0x80041014 in no time. You can also try the same here. To enable the Windows update service, follow the steps given below,

  • Follow the first two steps in FIX 1 to enter into the Services window. Then locate the Windows Update service.
  • Right-click over it, and from the drop-down menu, select Start. 

Once you are done, check for the said error. 

Fix 4: Run SFC Scan:

If your system has a corrupted or damaged system file, it might cause to trigger the Windows Update error 0x80041014 issue. In this scenario, you can run an SFC scan to escape from the said error, which will check the corrupted files and repair them automatically. To run the SFC scan you can go though these given steps, 

  • Click on the Windows “Start” menu and start typing “cmd” on your keyboard.
  • Now the Command Prompt window option will open to you. 
  • You have to right-click on the search result and select the option Run as administrator.
  • If it asks for the admin password, enter the password and then click OK.sfc/ scannow
  • In the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter to run the scan process.


  • Then let the scan complete on its own. This process might take some time. You can keep this black window aside and carry on other work.

When the rest of your work is complete, check once the black window after a certain time and check if the process stopped or not. As soon as the SFC process gets stopped, you have to restart your computer and check whether the said error persists. 

Fix 5: Edit Registry Window:

If all of the above solutions did not help you resolve the Windows Update error 0x80041014 issue, you need to edit the registry, but this solution is complicated. So you have to follow this solution at your own risk. To edit the Windows registry, you can follow these steps,

  • Firstly, press Windows + R simultaneously to launch the RUN dialog box, then type regedit in the text box and then click on OK. 
  • In the new window, you get navigation on the left pane menu. Then locate the path, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate.
  • If you can see it, search for WUServer and WIStatusServer options.
  • If you do not find them listed, you cannot clean the download path. Otherwise, you can erase them both.

Once you are done, restart your system and check the said error code persists or is solved for you. 

After this, you can give a try to search for new updates if available. But remember, if the situation does not seem to change and the issue arises again, then you need to do something different. You need to contact any professional suitable for your criteria to check the issue.
